Summer is finally here, and we couldn’t be more excited! As you get ready for some fun in the sun, it’s important to change your skincare routine to adapt it to hotter, more humid weather. We’re sharing tips on how to be hot-weather ready this summer!
1) Sunscreen, Everywhere, All the Time
You should wear sunscreen year-round, but if there was ever a season to NOT forget it, it’s summer. Sunscreen protects your skin from the sun’s harmful UV rays, which can cause premature aging or worse, skin cancer.
The ideal sunscreen:
- Has 30 SPF or higher
- Has broad spectrum protection
- Water-resistant (a.k.a sweat resistant)
We’d recommend any of the sunscreens from Elta MD. These have a minimum SPF of 40 and offer broad-spectrum protection. The UV Sport sunscreen also offers water-resistance. Remember to reapply sunscreen to any exposed skin every two hours to keep your skin protected.
2) Drink. More. Water
Yes, even more than you already are. When you sweat, you lose water, and water is key to keeping your skin plump and hydrated. Water is also key to maintaining a healthy skin barrier, so make sure you’re drinking extra water to compensate for long days in the sun, and lots of sweating.
3) Switch to a lightweight moisturizer
Sun exposure can dry your skin out, so it’s important to moisturize and keep your skin hydrated. While a thick cream is good for dry winters, it might be too thick during the summer months, so try a lightweight moisturizer instead.
The Emulsion Originelle Régénérante Body cream is enriched with lipid-replenishing active ingredients that help protect your skin from extreme weather conditions and quick-absorbing so you don’t feel greasy.
4) Change your clothes after outdoor exercise
Outdoor workouts are great for your mental and physical health, but all that sweat can create a bacteria-friendly environment on your skin, which can cause skin rashes. Make sure you change out of tight workout gear soon after your workout. Better yet, try to take a quick shower (or use shower wipes if you’re on the go) to get rid of that sweat.
5) Exfoliation
With sunscreen, sweat and anything else that gets on your skin while you’re out, it’s easy for your pores to get clogged. Exfoliation 2-3 times per week can help remove the buildup of dead skin, oils and residual SPF.
The Charme D’orient Black Soap and Kassa Glove are the ultimate exfoliation duo. The Black Soap preps your skin for physical exfoliation by removing oils and build-up, while the Kassa Glove scrubs away dead skin cells through manual pressure. The result? Ultra-clean, soft skin.
Get out there and enjoy the summer fun while keeping your skin healthy and happy.
